ACTON, Ont. - An eight-year-old girl is in stable condition after being hit by a pickup truck Thursday afternoon in Acton, Ont., west of Toronto.

Halton region police say it appears the child ran into the street from between two parked cars and the truck driver was unable to stop in time.

The child was knocked to the ground and suffered some serious internal injuries.

Police say the male driver and his passenger stopped and tried to help the girl before an ambulance took her to hospital.

Police say the site of the accident (Kingham Road west of Highway 25) is a busy road with playgrounds on either side.

No names have been released.
