A 30-year-old man has been charged in a spate of fires that caused more than $1 million in damages to homes and vehicles in the Christie Pits Park area more than four years ago.
Toronto police said several fires were deliberately set between Shaw Street and Christie Street over the span of 30 minutes on the early morning of July 2, 2007.
The fires damaged multiple homes, garages, vehicles and several other structures, causing approximately $1 million in damages and costing the city tens of thousands of dollars to finance the emergency response.
Some 200 firefighters were called at the time to battle the blazes, all found within a four-block radius. No one was hurt, but a family cat was killed.
On Tuesday, Toronto police charged a man who was already in custody with 20 charges connecting to the series of fires set in 2007.
Dallas Rostant, 30, has been charged with nine counts of arson with disregard for human life, nine counts of arson to property, possession of incendiary material and theft under $5,000.
He is scheduled to appear in an Old City Hall court on Wednesday for a bail hearing.
