A young teen was stabbed Tuesday morning after a fight over a pair of gloves, say Toronto police.
One person was arrested shortly after the 15-year-old high school student was stabbed on school property, said Const. Tony Vella, spokesperson for Toronto police. He was found on a dead end street near a ravine by the school.
The 17-year-old suspect was arrested nearly 30 minutes after the stabbing occurred inside Don Mills Collegiate Institute, a public school near Lawrence Avenue and Don Mills Road.
The suspect, who is also a student at Don Mills CI, has been charged with:
- aggravated assault
- assault with a weapon
- a weapons-related offence
- failure to comply with a recognizance
His is to make a court appearance at 2201 Finch Ave. W. on Wednesday morning.
Police got the 911 call Tuesday morning at about 10:38 a.m. When police arrived, they found the victim from a stab wound to the stomach, Vella said. The teen was inside the school's front office when police arrived. He was rushed to the hospital in serious but not life-threatening condition.
"A police officer arrived on the scene and called an ambulance when he saw the student going into shock," said Vella.
Police are still on the scene speaking with students and trying to find witnesses to the incident.
School officials declared a lockdown for several hours while the police probed the incident.
