TORONTO - The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario says 17 deals were reached Friday for more than 22,000 teachers across the province.
Deals for full-time and occasional teachers in 11 school boards were tentatively agreed to and details will be released following ratification votes.
The teachers' last contract had expired on Aug. 31, 2008.
A deadline of Friday had been set for contract negotiations but some teachers are still waiting for news about a contract for their school board.
Overall, the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario represents 73,000 elementary public school teachers and education workers and is the largest teacher federation in Canada.
Deals were reached for teachers with: the Algoma District School Board, Avon Maitland District School Board, Bluewater District School Board, Durham District School Board, Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board, Lambton Kent District School Board, District School Board of Niagara, Ontario North East District School Board, Renfrew County District School Board, Toronto District School Board, and the Trillium Lakelands District School Board.
