A carjacking in Pickering led police on a chase that ended in downtown Toronto with three suspects escaping.

Durham Regional Police received reports of a carjacking at around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. Four men allegedly took a car while the owner was still inside.

The alleged carjackers sped west along Hwy. 401 and then south into Toronto's downtown core. Along the way several cars were struck, causing minor accidents. Weapons were also thrown from the stolen vehicle as the chase continued.

The chase came to an end at Queen Street East and Sumach Street near Parliament in the city's Regent Park neighbourhood.

Toronto police set up a perimeter using Emergency Task Force officers and Canine Units. One person was taken into custody but three suspects managed to slip through the police ring. They remain at large and police continue to search for the suspects.

The victim in the incident was uninjured.
