A surveillance camera video of an alleged carjacking in progress outside a Toronto hospital resulted in an arrest on Friday.
Officers launched an investigation on Tuesday after an elderly woman complained that she had been carjacked and robbed while going to visit her husband at the hospital.
The suspect allegedly approached the passenger window of the car the woman was driving, saying he was a member of hospital security and that she could not park in that spot.
Police said the suspect got in the car and then switched seats with the 79-year-old woman. He allegedly drove a short distance and then stopped.
Worried, the woman got out of the car and the suspect drove away.
The victim was still holding onto the car when the suspect drove off, police said, causing her to fall to the ground. She suffered minor injuries.
Police launched an investigation into the incident and publicly released security camera video taken at the time.
Following tips received from the public, police arrested George Apostolou, 39, and laid a list 12 charges.
The suspect appeared at Old City Hall Court on Friday.
