Ontario Provincial Police officers have arrested a Brighton man for a Highway 401 road rage incident in which a firearm was allegedly pointed -- the third such incident in the last five days.
"Police would like to remind everyone how dangerous a gun can be when not properly handled," the OPP said Wednesday in a news release.
"Anyone involved in similar incidents should not attempt to get involved but report the incident to police immediately."
The Highway 401 incident occurred about 4:25 p.m. Monday in the eastbound lanes of at the intersection with Highways 35/115.
"A concerned driver contacted the OPP Communication Centre advising police that the driver of the Hyundai had pointed a gun at him," police alleged.
"The driver was driving erratically prior to the incident and appeared to be on a walkie talkie," they alleged.
Officers from the Brighton OPP detachment pulled over the vehicle and allegedly seized a BB gun.
A 19-year-old man was charged with pointing a firearm and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace -- however, the charges were later dismissed.
OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford told CTV Toronto on Wednesday that two other complaints were made in the past five days, including one Tuesday night in the Aurora area. However, officers were unable to locate the vehicles and make arrests in those cases, he said.
He urged drivers not to take the law into their own hands.
"If they do see something like this, don't be following (the suspect vehicle)," he said.
Instead, try to get a licence plate number and vehicle description, then call police as quickly as possible, Woodford said.
