A Toronto police officer was taken to hospital after a collision between her cruiser and a TTC bus early Friday morning.

The Toronto Police Service said the officer was rushing to a join a police pursuit at about 1:30 a.m. when the collision occurred in the Main Street and Danforth Avenue area.

The officer suffered a serious ankle injury but is expected to recover, police said.

While police have not said weather conditions played a factor in the collision, authorities say sudden freezing and snowy conditions have led to chaos on Toronto-area roads.

Ontario Provincial Police say the sharp weather has led to a dismal day on roads and highways around the Toronto area.

There were 30 reported collisions during one 30-minute period Friday morning, most related to cars sliding off the road and into ditches or guardrails.
