Two teens arrested by police Thursday morning after authorities received a tip about a possible gun sighting at a Mississauga high school will not be charged, according to Peel region investigators.
Police received the call from an employee at Lincoln Alexander Secondary School on Morningstar Drive at around 9:30 a.m. There were no reports of gunfire and no injuries were reported, said Sgt. Zahir Shaw, spokesperson for Peel Regional Police. A weapon has not been recovered.
Uniformed officers, the police k-9 unit and a tactical team were immediately sent to the scene, Shaw said. Soon after, two boys were taken into police custody a short distance from the school.
Students at the school were immediately put under lockdown but officers evacuated the building and sending people to the Malton Community Centre located nearby. The lockdown was lifted at around 2:30 p.m.
Parents were asked to go to a post at the Morning Star Middle School for more information.
Other schools in the area were also put into lockdown following the incident but all students have since been released.
