TORONTO - Two Ontario ministers will be meeting with federal Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day in Ottawa today to discuss violent crime in the province.
Attorney General Chris Bentley and Community Safety and Corrections Minister Rick Bartolucci are expected to press Day for a national handgun ban.
It's part of the province's stated four-point plan to reduce gun violence, which also includes stronger border security to reduce smuggling, more police and community investment.
But it doesn't look like Day will bend under the pressure.
Speaking in Toronto last week, rather than instituting a ban, Day said the federal Conservatives would rather go after illegal activity and serious crime.
But he said Ottawa is still committed to hiring more police and continuing to fund programs designed to keep young people on the right track.
