TORONTO - Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty is shooting down a proposal to force kids to wear helmets on ski slopes.

The calls come after a 13-year-old South Korean exchange student died last week after hitting a tree at a ski resort in central Ontario.

McGuinty says after hearing about the tragedy, he bought himself a helmet to wear when he's out on the slopes.

But he won't go so far as to force others to do the same.

McGuinty says he never wore a ski helmet growing up, but he urged parents to give some thought to the dangers associated with skiing.

Provincial police said the student, James Moon, lost control and struck a tree adjacent to a beginner trail last Wednesday.
