A man who Toronto police allege was posing as Justin Bieber to lure girls online may have more victims around the world.
Earlier in April, police arrested a 34-year-old Toronto man who they say extorted a 12-year-old girl through Facebook while pretending to be Bieber.
Police now say his victim was in New Jersey and they are worried she may not be the only one.
They allege the man convinced the girl to perform sex acts over her web cam, threatening to hurt her family if she didn't comply.
"Once he was able to get her to do this, he then extorted her by saying he was going to post this on pornographic websites," said Toronto police Const. Victor Kwong.
The accused was also chatting with girls in Canada, France, Australia and the Philippines, police said.
The man was using both Facebook and ooVoo, a free video chat site, under the identities of Lee ONeel, Justy.beber1, and Yodayoda001, police said.
New Jersey police, who worked with Toronto police to make the arrest, released a statement Wednesday, warning of the dangers that can come to children online.
"This arrest highlights both the danger posed to children online as well as the best efforts of law enforcement authorities throughout the world to apprehend these child predators," the statement read.
Kwong used this case to urge parents to be aware of what their kids are doing online.
"Parents, you also have to watch out to see what your kids are doing online, see what sites they're going onto and use your judgment," Kwong said.
A police news release said Lee Moir faces charges that include luring a child under 16, invitation to sexual touching, making child pornography and extortion.
Moir will appear in court for a bail hearing Thursday.
