A 29-year-old Toronto man who was shot dead and dumped onto Highway 401 earlier this week may have been involved in criminal activity, CTV has learned.
Sources told CTV News' Jim Junkin Thursday that Dayne Rose may have been targeted for murder because he recently became involved in dealing guns and drugs.
Meanwhile, through interviews with witnesses who saw the murder, officers are working to piece together Tuesday afternoon's horrific events.
But since many of the eye witness accounts differ, officers said it could take time to figure out what really happened.
Still, police are sure that Rose was either pushed or fell out a champagne-coloured Lexus on Highway 401, close to the Keele St. exit.
Police also said that Rose was in the backseat of the car, and that he was shot by a man with a hand gun.
Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair said it's not surprising there are variations among the different eyewitness accounts, given the shocking nature of the crime.
"It's inevitably the case in these situations, where everybody sees it from a different perspective," he told CTV Toronto's Jim Junkin.
"There are some variations in the accounts that were given, but that's the work of detectives," he added.
Autopsy results show that Rose was killed by a single gun shot wound, and that he was dead before his body hit the roadway.
While Rose may have become involved in criminal activity, police said that he was not a hardened criminal.
Officers said that the extent of his record was a probation violation stemming from a domestic incident two-years ago.
