City workers had to get the help of the Toronto police when they arrived at an east-end home to execute a work order and found a disgruntled home owner.
City staff were there to take down a storage shed that was deemed unsafe. A man began arguing with workers until police were called. When police arrived at the Secord Avenue home, in the Victoria Park and Danforth Avenue area, a suspect had barricaded himself in the house with an elderly woman believed to be his mother.
Police spokesperson Const. Tony Vella said a machete was seen and dangerous threats were uttered to city staff.
The police' Emergency Task Force Unit was called to the scene to coax the suspect out of the home.
A suspect was arrested at the scene and charged with assault with a weapon and uttering a death threat.
