The jury in the Jordan Manners' murder trial has started its deliberations on Wednesday afternoon, what would have been his 19th birthday.
Prosecutors have argued Manners, who was 15 at the time, was murdered in a robbery.
However the defence team said on Monday that the death of the Grade 9 student four years ago was the result of an accidental shooting.
Defence lawyers said the two accused in the shooting were friends with Manners and had no reason to kill him.
The accused cannot be identified because they were only 17 at the time of the shooting.
Manners was shot in the heart with a single 25-calibre bullet inside C.W. Jefferys Collegiate Institute, in the Keele and Finch neighborhood, in 2007. He was the first student to be shot and killed inside a Toronto high school.
This is the second trial for the two accused. The first trial ended in a mistrial. Both have pleaded not guilty.
