The defence team in the Jordan Manners case argued Monday that the death of the Grade 9 student was the result of an accidental shooting.
Defence lawyers said the two accused were friends with Manners and had no reason to kill him. The accused cannot be identified because they were only 17-years-old at the time of the shooting.
The Crown will make its final arguments on Tuesday morning. Prosecutors have argued Manners was murdered in a robbery.
Manners was shot in the heart with a single .25 calibre bullet inside C.W. Jefferys Collegiate Institute in the Keele and Finch neighborhood in 2007. He was the first student to be shot and killed inside a Toronto high school.
Manner's mother was in the courtroom Monday and left after the lunch hour.
The jury in the case could begin deliberations as early as Wednesday afternoon.
