An Environment Canada special weather statement has ended hours after the agency warned of rain and possible thunderstorms in the Toronto area.

The statement, issued Thursday morning, said that affected areas would see heavy showers with approximately 30 to 50 millimetres of rainfall accumulating through the day. Environment Canada said that some areas might also be hit by thunderstorms in the late morning or early afternoon.

The statement has ended for the following areas:

  • Toronto
  • Dunnville-Caledonia-Haldimand
  • Hamilton
  • York
  • Halton-Peel
  • Barrie-Orillia-Midland
  • Parry Sound-Muskoka
  • Dufferin-Innisfil
  • Burk's Falls-Bayfield Inlet
  • Niagara
  • Pickering-Oshawa-Southern Durham Region
  • Uxbridge-Beaverton-Northern Durham Region

In addition to the statement, the weather agency said some parts of Ontario are under a severe thunderstorm watch.

"Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and torrential rain," Environment Canada said.

  • Kingston-Prince Edward
  • Peterborough-Kawartha Lakes
  • Stirling-Tweed-South Frontenac
  • Bancroft-Bon Echo Park
  • Brockville-Leeds and Grenville
  • Ottawa-Gatineau
  • Prescott and Russell
  • Cornwall-Morrisburg
  • Smiths Falls-Lanark-Sharbot Lake
  • Haliburton
  • Renfrew-Pembroke
  • Barry's Bay
  • Algonquin
