The Canadian Automobile Association is asking that a portion of the harmonized sales tax on fuel be used to repair damaged Ontario roads.
Drivers are asked to sign a CAA online petition suggesting that the Ontario government dedicate 50 per cent of the fuel tax to transportation and infrastructure maintenance.
"We do need a long-term plan. It is new money, so we'd like to see the province dedicate it back into road maintenance," said CAA spokeswoman, Faye Lyons.
Last year, Steeles Avenue was classified as the worst road in Ontario, according to the CAA.
Funding from all three levels of government gave it a facelift, but the CAA says a long-term financial commitment is needed to ensure our roads are well maintained and safe.
