Police say two people have been charged in a shooting that left a 14-year-old girl dead on July 9.

According to police, an 18-year-old and a youth have been arrested and charged. The specific charges are not yet known.

Lecent Ross, 14, was fatally shot inside a townhouse in Toronto's Rexdale neighbourhood on July 9. She later died in hospital.

The circumstances of Ross’s shooting are still unclear. Police would not confirm who fired the gun. At the time, investigators said they were not calling the shooting an accident, but were not looking for any suspects either.

The teen’s aunt called her tragic death an “accident,” saying Ross was “in the wrong place at the wrong time”.

Police say they will release more details in a press conference on Friday at 10 a.m.
