A 94-year-old woman is dead and two men were transported to hospital after a car crashed head-on into a wall of a building in an alleyway in the Little Italy neighbourhood Thursday afternoon.
Police say a Toyota Camry was travelling northbound in an alleyway, located near the College Street and Euclid Avenue area, when it crashed into the back wall of a building at approximately 2:30 p.m. It appears the car failed to negotiate a turn.
All three occupants of the car were rushed to hospital, where the elderly woman was pronounced dead. Police say two men in their 60s suffered non-life threatening injuries. The woman was sitting in the front-passenger seat of the car.
Police say the cause of the crash is under investigation.
"We have cordoned off the area and we are going to start collecting some of the physical evidence," Const. Hugh Smith said at the scene Thursday afternoon. "There is a lot of mechanical stuff we have to look at."
He said investigators will look at a number of factors, including the vehicle's brakes, and the fact that only one airbag was partially deployed.
