Toronto Public Health has extended the hours of its 10 swine flu vaccination clinics.
"We want to make it easier for people in the priority groups to get vaccinated," Dr. Barbara Yaffe, director of communicable disease control with Toronto Public Health, said in a news release issued Thursday.
"Extending our hours and locations will also help us vaccinate everyone when more vaccine becomes available."
All clinics are now open from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday clinics will continue to run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
On Sunday, there will be five locations open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.:
- Metro Hall
- East York Civic Centre
- North York Civic Centre
- Etobicoke Civic Centre
- Timothy Eaton Business and Technical Institute
"The majority of Toronto Public Health clinics have been operating this week without wait times. In particular, the clinics at Melody Public School and North Kipling Community Centre have been able to see clients immediately," the release said.
In addition, more than 400 doctor's offices have received vaccine. Toronto Public Health said it has distributed more than 265,000 doses to community health centres, family health teams and hospitals.
The unit now has "limited quantities" if unadjuvanted vaccine for women who are less than 20 weeks pregnant. Some physicians also have small supplies of that vaccine now.
The clinics and shots are still only for the following priority groups:
- people with chronic medical conditions under the age of 65
- children from six months to less than five years old
- household contacts and care providers of persons at high risk who cannot be immunized or may not respond to vaccines
- health care workers
- pregnant women
