It was the last day of winter, but Toronto felt more like summer Monday as the mercury soared and the city set a new record-high temperature.
The temperature in Toronto topped out at 23 C under sunny skies at 5 p.m., according to Environment Canada.
That beats the previous record for March 19 of 19.1 C, which was set in 2010.
Sun seekers took advantage of the warmth, playing beach volleyball at Woodbine Beach and walking along the promenade in shorts.
Next to the volleyball players, an ice-cream vendor had already set up his truck, two months earlier than usual.
The average high temperature for this time of year is 4.7 C and the average low is -4.4 C.
There's good news in the forecast for sun-seekers on the first day of spring, too. Environment Canada is predicting more sun and a high of 22 C Tuesday.
The good weather is predicted to continue into the week, with a high if 26 C on Wednesday and a high of 25 C on Thursday.
Environment Canada predicts rain will move into Toronto by the end of the week, but temperatures will remain unseasonably high.
