TORONTO - Three Halton police officers are facing criminal charges after a 79-year-old man received serious injuries from being Tasered and shot with an anti-riot weapon.
The province's Special Investigations Unit determined the charges were warranted after probing the incident that occurred on Nov. 25, 2006, when officers responded to a call for assistance at a home in Oakville.
Police fired a rubber-like projectile from an anti-riot weapon at Gerry Morgan, allegedly causing serious injuries to his upper arm.
He was also Tasered and apparently broke his hip as he fell.
Morgan died on May 4, but the investigation did not link his death with the incident in question.
Joe Davis, Richard Dodds and Matthew Kohler are charged with assault causing bodily harm and unlawfully causing bodily harm.
Davis and Kohler are also charged with assault with a weapon in regards to the anti-riot weapon, and Dodds and Kohler are charged with assault with a weapon in regards to the Taser.
All three officers are scheduled to appear in a Milton court on May 28.
