Children can once again enjoy an Oakville, Ont. playground after city officials reopened Wednesday, almost a week after razor blades were found buried in mulch around the play equipment.

Eight razor blades were found at Munn's Creek Park near River Oaks Public School by an area resident. Three blades were found on April 4 and another five were found over the weekend by city works employees who were sent to search the area for other hazards.

Police were also called to the scene and launched an investigation.

The playground was fenced off while city employees used magnets and metal detectors to ensure no more blades posed a hazard.

Wednesday morning the park was reopened. Oakville staff will watch the park for the rest of the week.

Searches of playground mulch were also launched at two nearby parks, but no more blades were found.

Halton police continue to investigate how and why the blades were buried around the playground equipment.

No injuries were reported as a result of the dangerous discovery.
