ORLANDO, Fla. - Rookie midfielder Luis Silva scored twice as Toronto FC defeated FC Dallas 3-0 on Thursday to set up an all-Canadian final at the Disney Pro Soccer Classic.
Ryan Johnson scored the other goal for Toronto FC, who finished the group stage undefeated (2-0-1) and will meet the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday.
Vancouver clinched Group One on Wednesday when it shut out Sporting Kansas City 3-0 to stay undefeated with a 3-0-0 record.
TFC got its first chance in the 20th minute when diminutive attacker Joao Plata took a pass from Reggie Lambe inside the box but fired high with his weaker right foot.
In the 26th Lambe used his speed to fly by defender Matt Hedges, but FC Dallas 'keeper Chris Seitz came off his line perfectly to close the angle and thwart the chance.
Silva broke through in the 35th when he beat a defender and poked his shot past Seitz, who got his hands on the ball but was unable to keep it out.
Silva struck again five minutes later, latching onto a loose ball inside the box and powering it home for his second of the match.
"Luis is a very good player but we knew when we drafted him in January that he was a player with a lot of skill and he can score goals and make a difference," said TFC head coach Aron Winter. "He is adapting very quick."
FC Dallas struggled all match to create any dangerous chances, leaving the door open for Toronto to strike again. With eight minutes remaining, Johnson bundled home a cross after Seitz spilled a rebound inside the 18-yard-box for the final scoreline.
"We didn't give them many chances throughout the game, they didn't have a shot on goal, I don't recall so Milos (Kocic) and myself only had to deal with some crosses and distribution but a decent result," said Toronto goalkeeper Stefan Frei.
"They didn't line up their first team but we needed to get some minutes and work on fitness and confidence and that's what we got tonight."
In the final round-robin game Thursday, Bjorn Anklev scored both goals as Swedish club B.K. Hacken beat Orlando City Soccer.
Because of a goal differential decide, Dallas FC and the Houston Dynamo will meet in the third-place game Saturday.
