Goalkeeping coach Mike Toshack has left Toronto FC and joined the Portland Timbers, opening the way for former Celtic 'keeper Stewart Kerr to join the TFC coaching staff.
Kerr, a 37-year-old native of Bellshill, Scotland, played for Glasgow Celtic from 1993 to 2001. He also played in England for Brighton & Hove Albion and Wigan, with whom he finished his career in 2002.
Most recently, he was goalkeeping coach for Scotland's Motherwell.
"We are pleased to add Stewart to our staff. He brings a great deal of experience and will continue to develop our goalkeepers," Toronto coach Winter said in a statement.
Toshack, 46, and Timbers coach John Spencer worked together with the Houston Dynamo in 2007 and 2008.
Toshack, a native of Prescott, Ont., has served as a goalkeeper coach in Major League Soccer for five seasons, including the last three with Toronto.
He made the move to Portland after his contact expired with Toronto.
"I am delighted to add a coach of Mike's experience to our staff," said Spencer said in a statement. "I worked with him in Houston and he has a tremendous amount of quality."
