Toronto police have arrested a man they suspect of shooting at an officer early Monday morning.

Police say members of their Guns and Gang Task Force approached a man at around 2:30 a.m. Monday in the Weston Road and Highway 401 area.

A suspect pointed a gun at police and fired, missing the officer but hitting a police cruiser.

Nobody was injured in the shooting.

Authorities say a suspect was arrested late Monday night at around 10:30 p.m. Police say they recovered a firearm at the scene.

Jaime Eduardo Merchan, a 21-year-old Toronto resident, has been charged with a slew of weapons offences including attempted murder with a firearm.
