The long weekend got off to a violent start. Just before 4 a.m. on Saturday, a man was shot in the thigh in the Queen Street West and Soho Street area after a group of men got into an altercation.

Toronto police spokesperson Const. Tony Vella told CTV.ca that the victim went to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect is still at large, but seven people were detained and questioned by police.

Not long after the shooting, a man was slashed with a broken bottle outside an after-hours club near St. Clair Avenue West and Blackthorn Avenue.

The victim is in hospital with serious injuries.

And just before 7 a.m. Saturday, police arrested four men at gun point on the Gardiner Expressway after pulling over a car for travelling at high speeds.

A handgun was found in the car, which was impounded.
