Toronto police are alerting the public after they say a sexual assault suspect failed to reveal he was diagnosed with HIV in 2004.

A teenaged girl told police she was sexually assaulted inside an apartment in the Jane Street and Finch Avenue West area.

On Wednesday, police arrested a suspect and charged him with sexual assault and sexual interference.

"Further investigation has revealed that (the accused) was diagnosed with HIV in 2004 and it is alleged that he deliberately failed to reveal his medical status to the girl," states a press release.

"Police are concerned that he may have had sexual contact with other men or women without revealing his health status."

Charged is 26-year-old Promise Nwanodi, of Toronto.

He has been released on a recognizance and will next appear in court on Nov. 6.

Anyone who may have had sexual contact with the accused is asked to seek medical advice.

Police are asking anyone with information about the accused to contact 31 Division's Family Services Unit at 416-808-3105, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477), or go online at www.222tips.com.
