A sentence for a Caledon, Ont. man found guilty of impaired driving causing death was delayed on Friday.
Sabastian Prosa was convicted in June of 12 charges in connection with a wrong-direction crash in 2012. Police said that Prosa, then 19, was behind the wheel of an SUV that was travelling the wrong way on Highway 427 on Aug. 5, 2012.
The SUV struck a minivan near the eastbound Queen Elizabeth Way, killing Jayantha Wijeratne, 49, and his 16-year-old daughter Eleesha. Wijeratne’s wife was also in the vehicle at the time of the head-on collision and was seriously injured. The family was returning from a vacation in Florida.
Toxicology reports suggested that Prosa's blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit.
Prosa was found guilty of 12 charges on June 26.
Prosa was expected to receive his sentence at the courthouse at 361 University Ave on Friday, but the sentence has been delayed due to a funeral for another judge. A later date is yet to be set.
Family members of the victims read impact statements on Friday, before court adjourned for the day.
