After nearly a month of living with temporary accommodations, residents of an east-end Toronto apartment building that was badly damaged during a fire were told they will likely be back at home by the end of the month.
Tenants of 2 Secord Ave., in the Danforth Avenue and Dawes Road area, have been homeless ever since an electrical vault adjacent to the building exploded on July 21.
Officials say tenants will be allowed back in their homes by appointment only over the next few days. They will be allowed in for 15 minutes to pick up belongings for children heading back to school.
The building has been without electricity and hot water since the explosion and has been deemed uninhabitable for now.
However, an insurance adjustor working on the case said everyone is working hard to make sure the building is open to the public in time for September.
