Police have released the name and photograph of a man stabbed to death in the Jane Street and Finch Avenue area Saturday night in hopes more people will come forward with information about suspects in the case.

Toronto resident Christopher O'Neil Johnson, 23, was stabbed just outside an Eddystone Avenue apartment building at around 7:12 p.m.

Investigators are also hoping to speak to a friend of Johnson who goes by the name "Munch." They believe he was present during the altercation.

Police say Johnson and another man planned to meet at the building and a surveillance camera shows the duo walking into a courtyard. Four unknown men are also seen on the tape in the same area.

A short while later the victim and his friend appear on camera again, running although both of them appear wounded.

The victim collapsed in a pool of blood by a door of the apartment building. He was later pronounced dead.

The other man was found a block away suffering from stab wounds. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.

Police say the four unknown men on the tape are "persons of interest" and they'd like to speak to them.

They are described as:

  • Male, black, late teens, wearing a khaki-coloured jacket with light-coloured blue jeans
  • Male, black, early-to-mid-20s, wearing a black, hooded jacket with logos on the left and right chest and with a larger logo on centre of back. The jacket also had stripes down the arms and around the cuffs and waist. He was also wearing a black baseball cap, blue jeans, and dark-coloured shoes
  • Male, black, in his early 20s, wearing a dark jacket with a white hooded-sweatshirt underneath. He was also wearing a dark baseball hat.
  • Male, black, in his late teens, wearing a multi-coloured camouflage-style jacket with a skull on front centre of chest. He was wearing a matching baseball hat and black pants with black shoes.
