Police are warning students to be wary after three assaults in the past two days on the York University campus.
Police said all three assaults happened on Thursday and Friday near Vari Hall, a central campus building that contains lecture halls, student gathering space and staff offices.
The first assault happened Thursday around 3:30 p.m. when a 33-year-old-woman got off a TTC bus near Vari Hall.
Police said she was approached by the suspect, who struck up a conversation. The conversation ended and the woman walked away. The man followed and sexually assaulted her, police said.
Police said that around the same time on Thursday, a second woman got off a bus near Vari Hall.
Police said the 21-year-old woman was approached by two men this time. As in the first assault, the men began speaking to her before one sexually assaulted her.
On Friday, police said there was a third reported assault around 3 p.m., when a woman exiting Vari Hall was followed to the adjacent Accolade West building before a man began to speak to her. He then sexually assaulted her.
Police said they are looking for two suspects in connection with the assaults.
The first is described as black, about 6’ tall and between 155 and 175 pounds. Police said he is lanky with a thin face and a short black afro. He was last seen wearing dark jeans, a green patterned shirt and a blue and orange baseball cap.
The second man, who police said may have been involved, is described as black, between 5’7” and 5’9” tall, with a stocky build. Police said he is clean-shaven and was wearing jeans, a green shirt and sunglasses.
Police are asking for the public’s help with information. They are asking anyone with information to call the sex crimes unit at 416-808-7474 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS.
