Provincial police were back on the scene of a fatal crash on Highway 401 Wednesday morning, looking for witnesses to a tragic road rage incident that left a 55-year-old man dead.
Although a suspect in the case was arrested late Tuesday afternoon, the OPP said they need more information about what happened prior to the crash.
The accident took place at around 5:15 a.m Tuesday on the highway, near the James Snow Parkway in Milton. Witnesses told police an SUV and a car were seen travelling at high speeds just before entering the highway. Once they were on the highway, the driver of the SUV had to swerve out of the way when the driver of the car allegedly slammed on his brakes.
As a result, the SUV careened out of control, hit a concrete median and rolled over several times. The driver was ejected out of the vehicle and was pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver of the car left the scene but by the end of the day, a suspect turned himself in to police.
Wayne Winsor, 39, has been charged with criminal negligence causing death, dangerous driving causing death and failure to remain causing death. He was released Wednesday on $25,000 bail.
Police say their canvassing efforts were successful and that they received several leads for their investigation. They are considering going back out on the highway again on Thursday to speak with more motorists.
Nonetheless, they are asking for anyone with information to come forward by calling Port Credit OPP at 905-278-6131.
