COURTICE, Ont. - A man has been killed and a woman seriously hurt in a head-on crash east of Toronto.
Police say it happened around 3:30 a.m. Saturday on Taunton Road in Courtice, a community near Oshawa.
They say a westbound vehicle driven by a 20-year-old woman crossed the centre line for unknown reasons and struck an eastbound car.
The car's driver, a 23-year-old man, had to be extricated from the wreckage. He later died in hospital.
Police have identified him as Timothy Smith of nearby Bowmanville.
They say the woman, whose name has not been released, remains in hospital in serious condition and charges are pending.
