A man remained in critical condition in hospital Sunday after being struck twice by his own car.

Police said the victim's wife was in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Insp. Peter Yuen said the man left the car in neutral at a Petro Canada on Danforth Avenue around 1:45 p.m. and got out to use the pump. The vehicle then rolled backwards, trapping him underneath.

His wife, who was in the passenger seat when the car began to roll, panicked and jumped into the driver's seat. She then put the car into drive and ran over the victim, Yuen said.

The man was taken to Sunnybrook Hospital with massive chest trauma.

No charges have been laid.
