TORONTO - The province's Special Investigations Unit is reviewing a police pursuit that ended when the suspect vehicle slammed into a Hamilton home early Saturday, leaving two occupants dead.

Officials say a Hamilton police officer spotted a black Mercedes speeding eastbound on Main Street shortly before 3 a.m.

The officer pursued the car for a short distance until it left the road and struck a house.

The SIU says two of the vehicle's male occupants died at the scene, while a third man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The SIU is investigating the circumstances surrounding the police response and the collision, and is appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates incidents involving police and civilians that result in serious injury, sexual assault or death.
