TORONTO - A key Crown witness in a Toronto school shooting says she regrets putting two men in jail because of what she now claims is a false statement.
Jordan Manners was 15 in 2007 when he was shot in the chest at C-W Jefferys Collegiate.
The woman, known only as Y-M, told Ontario Superior Court she feels "really bad" because she lied.
But Justice John McMahon has told the jury the statements can still be considered as possibly true.
Two men, who can be identified only as J-W and C-D, have pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.
This is their second trial after the first ended in mistrial last year.
In Y-M's police statement, she said she saw J-W drag Manners down some stairs, put something to his chest that might have been a gun, and arrange his dying body to make it look like he fell.
She also told police C-D then robbed Manners of a cellphone, neck chain and wallet before fleeing.
But Y-M has also repeatedly insisted she wasn't telling police the whole truth at the time.
She's now testified that she invented her account to be the centre of attention and impress her aunt and mother -- who she had a rocky relationship with.
