A high-risk child sex offender released from prison on Thursday is living in a halfway house in Toronto's west end, CTV News has learned.
Sources have told CTV Toronto's Jim Junkin that Junior Spencer is living at the Toronto Community Chaplaincy, at Keele and Dundas Streets. The facility houses about 40 inmates.
Spencer has spent his time so far watching TV, Junkin reported.
Children living in the area were sent home with a letter from their schools warning that a predator with a history of re-offending may be living in the area.
Spencer, 30, was imprisoned for sexually assaulting boys between the ages of 8 and 14 between 1995 and 2005.
Police issued a public safety warning on Thursday about Spencer, who has been known to change his appearance.
Spencer is the subject of a 10-year supervision order, which allows corrections officers and police to closely monitor his behaviour.
He is subject to numerous conditions, including that he not be around children or places where kids are likely to gather.
Spencer has a history of gaining trust with his victims, then exploiting his position to commit sexual offences, police said. He has also volunteered with agencies that deal with children.
