If your car’s “low fuel” light is illuminated, this might be a good time to visit your local gas station.

Gas prices are expected to rise by 2.2 cents a litre across most of Ontario on Friday – affecting approximately 90 per cent of motorists in the province – according to a gas price analyst.

Average prices are expected to jump to about 135.9 cents per litre in Toronto, Mississauga and Brampton, 134.9 cents per litre in Ottawa, 136 cents per litre in Hamilton and 133.1 cents per litre in London.

“Surprisingly, there’s no rhyme or reason for it,” Dan McTeague of Tomorrow’s Gas Price Today told CTVNews.ca.

The increase has nothing to do with conflict in Syria, McTeague says, suggesting that’s already added an eight cent premium to prices at the pumps.

“I’m wondering if that has more to do with one of the refineries … having a supply issue and not telling anyone about it,” he said. “It’s really a guessing game.”

The increase is expected to affect prices across most of the province, with the exception of some municipalities in the Toronto-Ottawa corridor.

While it might just seem like a matter of a few cents, drivers can save a lot of money by strategically choosing where and when to fill up, McTeague said.

“Canadians can save anywhere from $200 to $400 a year,” he said.

Prices are expected to return to Thursday levels by Tuesday or Wednesday.
