With less than two weeks before voters head to the polls, six former staffers from Rocco Rossi's mayoral campaign have joined George Smitherman in his bid for the city's top job.
Smitherman's biggest prize is Rossi's former campaign manager, Sachin Aggarwal, who was replaced by Bernie Morton in late August.
While it was unclear late Tuesday exactly what role Aggarwal will play in Smitherman's bid, current campaign manager Bruce Davis said "we welcome this addition to our growing team."
"Over the next two weeks, voters will have to decide what kind of Toronto they want, who can best represent their values and who can get Toronto working again. It is clear from this move that George is the only candidate who can stop Rob Ford."
The other five former Rossi staffers making the move are:
- Gary Anandasangaree, former campaign co-chair
- Alexis Levine, former organization committee chair
- Jon Kastikainen, former director of operations
- Wes Davis, former tour and scheduling director
- Darryl Tempest, former director of organization
Aggarwal said the team has "two weeks to stop four years of chaos in Toronto.
"I have great respect and admiration for Rocco, but we need to put our emotions and friendships aside, and unite behind a common banner to save our city."
