A morning standoff that closed the downtown intersection of Yonge and Gerrard Streets ended with the arrest of two people after men were reportedly seen waving guns in public.
Police arrested the driver of a vehicle stopped near Yonge and Dundas Square after a standoff that lasted nearly two hours.
The standoff began at around 7 a.m., according to Const. Tony Vella, after police responded to reports that two men were waving guns near Yonge and Dundas Square.
Vella said officers stopped a silver car containing two men. The passenger was instructed to leave the vehicle and was arrested by police at the scene.
The driver has initially refused to come out of the car, he said. He was taken into custody shortly before 9 a.m.
