A man was rushed to a Toronto hospital on Friday after an accident at King and Parliament Streets sent his car crashing into a nearby storefront.
Police said the man suffered serious injuries after a van and a car collided on King Street, just west of Parliament Street around noon. The car then crashed into a store located at 319 King St.
An elderly pedestrian was almost stuck by the car as it careened toward the store, but his son and at least two other passersby pulled him out of the way just in time.
“It was like a horror movie – black smoke, crash right in front of me,” 74-year-old Gerry Adamson, who uses a walker, told CTV News.
The driver of the van was still shaking as he spoke to CTV News on the scene. He said he had no time to avoid the car before the accident occurred.
Police said three people in total were injured; one other person has also been taken to hospital for assessment.
The area around the accident scene was shut down for several hours as police investigated.
