Toronto police say a report of a potential sex offender who allegedly tried to lure a nine-year-old Scarborough girl to his home is unfounded, and the incident did not happen.

Police issued a press release warning of the alleged perpetrator after a girl told officers she was outside her house on Monday night when a stranger asked her to help him find his dog. The girl said the man asked her to come back to his house with him.

Police investigated, and late Tuesday determined the incident did not occur.

Police initially expressed concern because they said a similar occurrence was reported in the same area on Saturday.
