Police are investigating after a series of shootings in Etobicoke left four people injured and forced a lockdown at two local hospitals.
Officers were called to 1 Mount Olive Drive, near Kipling Avenue and Finch Avenue West, at around 6:45 p.m. Friday.
Police say a man and a woman were found suffering from gunshot wounds at the scene and were taken to hospital.
The male victim was rushed to Sunnybrook Hospital with a gunshot wound to his hip while the female victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Toronto Police Superintendent Ron Taverner told CP24 that another man was also shot at the scene and suffered a gunshot wound to the buttocks.
The man was rushed to Etobicoke General Hospital by local residents.
Police say a shooter followed the victim to the hospital and opened fire in the area, injuring another victim.
Taverner says Etobicoke General Hospital was placed under a lockdown for a period of time following the shooting.
Police have cordoned off an area around the emergency department at the hospital as they investigate the scene.
The emergency department at Sunnybrook Hospital was also placed under lock down late Friday afternoon as a precaution.
Police say three of the victims have since been released from hospital while one remains at Sunnybrook Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Officers say they are also investigating a scene on Martin Grove Road that police believe is linked to the shooting.
Several armed officers and a K-9 unit have surrounded the area of Mount Olive Drive as police search for possible suspects.
“It is an on-going active scene, we’re searching a couple of different areas, there are individuals matching descriptions of suspects, so it is an on-going scene and very active,” Taverner said.
Police say there may be four suspects and two vehicles involved in the incident.
“I can confirm that there were several handguns and I can confirm that there were several vehicles,” Taverner said.
Police are currently working on descriptions of the suspects.
