Former Toronto mayor Rob Ford left a framed vintage TTC poster in the mayor's office as a gift for new leader John Tory.

The poster showed a drawing of a well-dressed woman with the slogan, "The subway is the best way... today, everyday."

The gift echoed one of the outgoing mayor's most-quoted mantras: "Subways, subways, subways."

Ford signed the poster, "John, Best wishes! Rob Ford."

Ford, who will return to Toronto City Hall as a councillor, left the gift on the desk for the new mayor to find on his first day.

Showing the poster to reporters outside of the office, Tory said he hopes to see Ford at City Hall on Tuesday, when the new council takes part in their first official meeting since the election.

"I think we all hope that he is there and in good enough health to be there for many, many days thereafter at our debates," Tory said.

During the meeting, which will largely be ceremonial, Tory will be presented with the mayor's chain of office.
