Well-known Canadian radio and television personality Mike Bullard's criminal harassment case was put over until December in a brief court proceeding on Wednesday morning.
Charges laid against Bullard stem from allegations that Bullard stalked his ex-girlfriend CityNews reporter Cynthia Mulligan.
According to court documents obtained by CTV News Toronto, Bullard was charged with criminal harassment on Sept. 21 after allegedly calling and text messaging his former girlfriend numerous times.
Police also allege that Bullard breached conditions of an undertaking which prevented him from communicating with Mulligan and required that he stay at least 100 metres away from her home.
On Oct. 16, Bullard allegedly contacted Mulligan in an attempt to have the charges against him dropped.
Speaking to The Toronto Star, Bullard said the charges relate to what he described as a “bad breakup.”
Bullard’s lawyer, Arthur Stern, told etalk Canada that he was "optimistic that (Bullard) will be exonerated of all of the charges."
The long-time broadcaster last worked as the host of Beyond the Mic with Mike Bullard on Newstalk 1010.
Scott Henderson, vice president of communications for Bell Media, the parent company for both Newstalk and CP24, said in an emailed statement that Bullard “departed the company on Oct. 5.”
Bullard is out on $2,000 bail and the conditions of his release prevent him from communicating with Mulligan or coming within 200 metres of her home or workspace.
He also must attend counselling.
A representative of Bullard's lawyer attended College Park courts on Wednesday and parties agreed to return to court on Dec. 9 at 10 a.m.
