Don Cherry joked that he hadn't heard of Toronto's mayor-elect in response to John Tory's comment that he wouldn't bring the television host to his swearing-in ceremony.

Tory was asked on Tuesday who he'd bring as a guest to kick off his stint as Toronto mayor.

"No offence at all, but it will not be Mr. Cherry," Tory said with a smile, referencing Mayor Rob Ford's guest choice in 2010.

At a media event on Wednesday, Cherry was asked how he felt about not being invited.

"Who's John Tory?" Cherry asked reporters jokingly.

When pressed further, Cherry said he'd supported Ford, but had accepted the election results.

"I'm very happy. John Tory's very good. He's got a good last name. He's a good guy. I was for Doug, I've always been for the Fords, but that doesn't mean that John won't make a good mayor."

Ford brought his friend Cherry as his guest in 2010 when he signed his declaration of office. Dressed in vibrant pink, Cherry made headlines when he lashed out at "pinkos out there who ride bicycles and everything."

At the event, Cherry told media that Ford would be "the greatest mayor this city's ever seen... now put that in your pipe, you left-wing kooks."

On Wednesday, Cherry was asked about Rob Ford, who was scheduled to meet with doctors for a follow-up on his cancer treatment.

"I think he's a wonderful person and I put the chain around him and I said 'all those left wing pinkos,' I'm happy and he's a good guy and he's a good friend."
