Two teenaged boys were stabbed and nine students were arrested after a brawl erupted at a university fair at the downtown Metro Convention Centre on Friday afternoon.
Toronto police Const. Paul Regan was at a construction site across the street from the building when he saw as many as 20 high school students stomp and beat up two boys outside the centre.
Two victims were stabbed during the melee, police said.
After Regan witnessed the attack, he gave chase, following the suspects through a nearby park and into a parking garage.
At one point, one of the teens stopped and looked as if he was going to fight with the officer.
Other officers caught up to the group and made several arrests. In total, nine students were apprehended.
Investigators were searching for the knives involved.
Thousands of students from across province attended the fair.
Security guards told CTV's Austin Delaney there were long lineups at the metal detectors at the front doors.
As a result, there was some shoving and pushing. Police believe this could have ignited the brawl.
A dozen police officers were hired to keep the peace at the event.
