Wired TTC customers can now get email alerts about subway and SRT disruptions.

To do so, they have to go to a special page on the TTC website to register for My TTC e-Alerts.

The TTC has posted news about major service disruptions on the subway and Scarborough Rapid Transit lines since the fall of 2007.

Those alerts inform riders about the disruption's location and whether shuttle buses have been put in place.

The new service will allow people to receive that information by email.

The TTC is working to expand its offerings to include:

  • SMS text messaging
  • Disruption notifications for streetcars and buses
  • Filtering functionality to allow people to receive information based on location, station or time of day

The TTC said it is also working on:

  • web-based trip planning, which should be available this summer
  • Internet-based purchasing of transit passes
  • Enhancements to the Next Vehicle Arrival System

The TTC launched a pilot version of that latter project in December.
